Caillard Mataro 2015 small.jpg

Jane Faulkner – Halliday Wine Companion, tasted: October 2017

“There might be a splash of shiraz (4%) and 16 months aging in French oak barriques (10% new) but Caillard is all about showcasing the unadulterated essence of mataro.  None better than this with its sour cherry and raspberry fruit profile and a dash of fresh pomegranate juice; it builds with a spice mix of star anise, pepper and cloves, menthol and smoky too.  The palate is quite fine and medium-bodied with a tautness between the sinewy, savoury tannins and crunchy acidity.  Such a mouth-watering finish.”
