“Good hue; the fragrant bouquet, with spiced, poached red fruit aromas, leads to a perfectly balanced palate, with silky – yea slinky – tannins underpinning the red and black fruits. The best yet.”

"This has quickly established a cult following. The fruit is sourced from the Barossa, which had one of the very best vintages in 2012. A great example of the variety, it only gets 10 per cent new oak, yet the powerful tannins and intense fruit provide weight and structure. Lots of sweet, savoury juicy fruit. Caillard’s own label painting is also eye-catching."

" Plenty of spice and dried herb in this one, blackberry pastille, blackcurrent, nuts and a little toast and creamed honey. Medium bodied, has a juiciness of fruit yet stays dark and spicy and earthy with a pleasing Amaro-like twang. Generous open weave tannin - good feeling here - length. Articulate wine. Give it a big glass and take your time."

"Acid-, rather than fruit- or tannin-driven red wines are eminently food friendly, and the balance here is spot on. Fragrant red berry compote offsets the earthy, herbal character of Mataro, with a bright structure gently supported by soft, fine tannins."
